Well G'day everyone! hope your having a cracking day! So, the VR Calais Project car is going to be a bit of a mission I'd say with interior, body work, mechanical and suspension work to be done. Due to being noisy and a thumping nosie on take off i could see i had movement in all joins and decided to rebuild the shaft. As far as i know from VB to VT Commodore shafts are very similar. I had this come up on my 05 pre facelift. literally every forum and google search said these solenoids are the cause. Hopefully it'll cure the idling fault and get the old girl into the 100,000 mile club for the cost of the part (i got change out of £15) and an hour / hours 1/2s time (i guess around) kinda seems silly not to. I've been limping it round for a while as I've been to-ing and fro-ing with the local garage. the fact i now have a CEL excites me, just for me to stand there with a sh*t eating grin and a big fat "I told you so" 🤣🤣 downside is I now have to limp it the 40 miles back from my stepmums as I have her Focus CC!

Top Vid Byron. Just did my VX. Had a fair idea what I had to do but it was good having your stuff to have a look over. Air bleed gave me some grief. Still not sure I got it all but I'm not getting any air out and I've go a 50/50 mix with me just in case. I've seen a couple of your vids now and you do a top job explaining what to do. Helped me with my front end rebuild as well

How do you unscrew the bolt with the locking tab? I've tried unscrewing it for ages and stays tight. Is the tab supposed to stop some where and hold the top nut still? Or do I need to hold the top nut with a spanner?
@@robwillmarsh hello yeah that tab is a locking tab but can pop out and spin so you might have to put a spanner on to it
Cheers I got it off I saw your other reply and unscrewed the frame a bit and put a spanner in. I'm having trouble getting the old bracket onto the new control arm, it fits easily onto the right side but not the left (with the ball joint castle nut facing up). Is it OK to hammer it on? @@downtheshedwithbyron
@robwillmarsh a love tap or 2 will be fine mate
@@downtheshedwithbyron cheers best camry tutorial so far. got it all done. to get the new ball joint on I had to screw on the castle nut side first then line up the three bolts and attach it to the control arm after for a bit more leverage

@@downtheshedwithbyron I got them, i had to remove the lower control arm with the rod still in it and then put in the vice, bashed with a hammer for 10mins then gave it heat and a 1 meter breaker bar got them! the joys lmao... cheers for the upload

Fantastic video. Great help and easy to follow. I had trouble with the lower ball joint spinning when trying to tighten back up. But putting a jack under it and applying some pressure allowed it to be easily tightened. A good tip to add to this video.

@downtheshedwithbyron hey mate. I posted another comment just below but forgot to add that it was for a td42. Strange problem coz temp gauge was working fine previously and now it barely goes above C even running for 15 mins
Any thoughts on my current problem?.......i had the radiator split on me on the highway last week, and have just finished putting the new one in. Problem is the fresh coolant isn't circulating and also for some reason the factory temp gauge is barely going above C
G'day mate Im guessing you temp sensor is connected ? Is it over heating or just not getting warm?
@downtheshedwithbyron hey mate. Yes the temp sensor is connected and working. I was driving home on the highway and noticed the factory temp gauge start to nudge above 1/2 which is abnormal for my car. I backed off but it only went back down temporarily, so I knew then something was wrong so pulled over. That's when I saw coolant pouring out the bottom of the engine bay. Opened the bonnet and found it had literally coated everything. I had heaps of water on me so was able to refill it but unfortunately the leak turned out to be the entire top tank of the radiator. Fast forward to the weekend and I've replaced the radiator, started to refill it, but after putting around 7 litres it wouldn't take anymore as the coolant wouldn't start circulating and the engine barely got above cold (which is unusual for my car after 15 mins of idling). I spoke to the guy at my local Autobarn who used to be a mechanic at Nissan, and he said it sounds like a faulty thermostat. I'll try that today and see if anything changes.
Quick update. It would appear that the thermostat was the culprit and as soon as I swapped it out and ran the car up the temp increased as per usual and coolant circulating through the radiator

Great Video. I got this job done to my Xtrail. But after completion my indicator stork doesn’t return most of the time after turning corners. Before the clock spring was replaced the indicator stork was returning normal. What do you think has happened while replacing the clock spring?
